2017 Junior Citizens Competition

I had a great time serving as a judge at the Chicago Park District's 63rd Annual Junior Citizen Awards "Scholarship Competition". All of the candidates ages 17 - 18 were simply amazing and had great experience in volunteering, community service, sports and employment. I saw some future CEO's, Medical Doctors, and Law Enforcement and Community Leaders.

The competition was held Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Archer Park located 4901 S. Kilbourn in Chicago, Illinois. As I told all the participants "just because you don't win this particular scholarship competition doesn't mean you're not a winner. You're a winner because you decided to put yourself out there, because you already served your community well, and because you're on the right track of being great!"

Believe it or not, a lot of the participants (not all) were of Polish descent and worried about President-elect Donald Trump's campaign rhetoric relative to immigration. They also viewed equality as one of the major issues facing America. I'm truly inspired by these young people and pray they stay focused...I honestly believe we have several gamechangers among them!
